Swiss Go Association
Minutes of
A.G.M. Bern 4/2/03
Present: A. Held (Bern), L. Trippel (Winterthur), S. Koch (Geneva),
D. Bauman (Lausanne), R. Morrison (Locarno),
A. Rosenheck (Zurich)
1. The minutes of the previous years meeting were accepted.
2. Held gave a Brief resume ot the years activities.
On the negative side, the Basle club has more or less died
as a result of Corina having given birth to a future Swiss
champion.
On the positive side, we can be satisfied that regular tournaments
were held in Bern, Lausane, Geneva, Zurich. A one day tournament
took place in Winterthur, a team tournament took place, as well as
our annual Stage organized by Daniel B. As a first, a Swiss
Junior championship was also organized. It is intended that
this become an annual event.
On the international
level were were represented at the World Pair championships by
Ursela Dumermuth and Lorenz Trippel, who creditably won
2 games, and at the WAGC by Adrian Zweig, who also turned in
a creditable perfomance by winning 4 games.
3. Financial report:
Trippel explained that as we have had almost no expenses this
year we are now sitting on a war chest of about 6 thousand
S.Fr. In the discussion that follows, it was decided that for next
year the federation will support recognized tournaments with a
contribution of 5 fr./ participant.
Also should an European team championship take place this year
the Federation will give financial support to a Swiss team. The
amount will be dependent on the local of the tournament and
the number of Swiss participants. Cf. below
4. Officers:
The officers Held, Trippel and Grueter were confirmed in
office. Allan Rosenheck was selected to replace Hans-Peter
Baumann as vice-president.
5. Ing Fund:
Held reported that we had (in principle) received two grants
from the Ing Fund. They were 2000 Fr. to support our
winter Stage, and 1115 Fr toward a Youth Championship.
Although the money has not yet appeared, we were assured
that it would shortly appear - the form of 80% immediately
(?) and 20% when a report has been submitted. Daniel will
be responsible for the Stage report and Held for the
Junior Championship report.
6. Tournament Calendar:
Zurich - 29/30 March
Lausanne - 21/22 June
Bern - 7/8 February (04!)
Geneva expects to hold a tournament, dates not yet fixed.
Winterthur - will either hold the one day tournament
or expand it to a full tournament.
Team tournament - cf. 6 below
Youth Championship - tentatively in Geneva (04!)
7. Patrick Grueter who was responsible for the team tournament
was unable to attend the meeting, But Morrison reports that such
as it was - attended mostly by Geneva and several from
Bern, it was a success and suggests that it be continued. Contact
with Patrick will be made.
8. Representation at the international level:
Sebastien Koch will represent Switzerland at the
WAGC. As of this moment there is no Team
championship listed on the European calendar.*
9. A demonstration of Hikaru no Go was set up in
the playing room, and Trippel explained about it
at the meeting. A French version of the Manga
books is available, and a German version is in
preparation. A contact address for Switzerland will
be found in both.
A popular magazine in Germany (Banzai??) will
be carrying it as well.
CD's are available with English sub titles should
anyone be interested.
9. Youth Championship:
Attendence was not what we wish, there were four
registered, and one had to drop out for health reasons.**
To try to rectify this problem, we are going to try
to stage the next one (04) in Geneva where there
are many more junior players. Assuming that
we get out Ing grant, financing is assured for the
next few years.
10. It was decided to support the new Winterthur club
by paying for their original purchase of material and
giving them 3 of the 5 sets of Ing Stones that we
had received as part of the grant.
11. Other business.
Last year in Croatia Swizerland was represented at the
AGM of the EGF by Neil Mitchison of Italy. He expects
to go to Russia this year, and has said that provided no
Swiss representative announces to me several months
before the congress that he will be going AND WILLING
to attend the meeting, he Mitchison will be prepared to
represent us again.
An appeal was made for e-mail addresses of those members
of the SGF who are on the web to be sent to either
Allan Rosenheck
or
Lorenz Trippel
There being no other business the meeting was closed.
* There is a pair championship scheduled for
Poland in April. If anyone has interest, please
get in touch with me. - Alan
** The tournament ended in a 3 way tie for first place.
A blitz tournament was then organized which also
ended in a 3 way tie. The executive then decided
to call them all winners of the first Swiss Junior
Go championship, and divided the prize money
evenly.
